Nutrition problems have been identified in In donesia since the Dutch colonial time and activities to overcome the problem started with the establish ment of the Institute for People's Diet (Instituut Yoor Yolks Yoeding) in 1934 by the Dutch govern ment. Its main tasks were nutrition research, nutri tion and dietary survey, nutrition education and providing advice on food and nutrition problems of the indigenous people to the government.
